In continuance, and I’ll make this kind of quick… My fiancé got the bright idea of jumping off of a slab of concrete next to a lighthouse. Upon landing, she wound up breaking her back (literally)… We had surfed for MAYBE 3 hours after initially arriving to Izu, and it was the first day of the trip. Given the fact that things went terribly wrong so quickly, I’ll go ahead and say by this point the trip had turned into an appropriately shitty experience. I felt like we had been robbed of what might have otherwise been a pretty epic adventure but I’ve come to understand that I might have gained so much more, having gone through something so terrible.
So, above is where "it" actually happened... What might have been a rather pleasant looking photograph certainly holds a different meaning for both me and my fiancé, but it's pretty awesome to have such vivid memories of the day, and the trip in general.
This, this is the aftermath. It's difficult to watch people you care about suffer, but the experience certainly yielded some of my own personal favorite photos. Still, I can say without a doubt this situation is something that I hope to never have to go through again.
